The Old Rugged Cross
Written by: Rev. George Bennard

On a hill far away
Stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross,
Where the dearest and best,
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

O that old rugged cross,
So despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God
Left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

In the old rugged cross,
Stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see;
For t'was on that old cross
Jesus suffered and died
To pardon and sanctify me.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown

.To the old rugged cross
I will ever be true,
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me some day
To my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

* This is my mother's favorite song. She is passing away. I want the world to know that this song is beautiful. I love playing it on the guitar and singing it. My mother will turn 86 Oct. 25th, 2004.

So, Happy Birthday Mom!

Love, your only daughter

Love always and forever

Love until I meet Jesus and you are by His side.

(that was a very long name to have to remember when I was in elementary school! :-)

PS. Mom, if you go to heaven before me, please ask Jesus to watch over us down here.
We are a mess, but Jesus loves us.
